Adoptions

It is our goal to place our cats and kittens into loving and responsible homes. Garfield’s Rescue, Inc. (GRI) seeks responsible adopters who intend to include the adopted feline as a part of their family and provide the necessary medical care, exercise, training and love.  We seek individuals who are committed to resolving any behavior and medical issues that may occur during the feline’s lifetime.

If you are interested in adopting OR learning more about one of our felines:
1. Complete our Adoption Application either in person or On-Line
2. GRI will do a veterinary reference check and if a potential adopter does not have a vet reference, we may require a home visit prior to finalizing an adoption
3. Schedule a pick up and pay the adoption fee

Kittens(under one), and  even many adult cats, thrive on feline companionship just like humans. It is a common misconception that felines are solitary pets!  We recommend that kittens under 6 months be adopted in pairs unless you already have a compatible cat in your home.In some cases, adult cats will require feline companionship, regardless of age. Again, we recommend that these cats be adopted in pairs or into a home with a compatible cat.  We are happy to identify which of our cats will be happy as single cats and those that need feline companionship.

Garfield’s Rescue, Inc. prides itself on taking in the not just "easy-to-adopt cute kittens", but also seniors, special needs, and cats with traumatic histories.  GRI has a soft spot for these felines and we have a long history of success in finding new homes. There are many benefits to adopting a senior kitty or one with special needs.  WHY?

Please note that the adoption fee goes toward GRI’s veterinary expenses.  All of the cats in GRI’s care have had the following treatments:

  • Veterinary wellness exam
  • Sterilization
  • Tested for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline "AIDS" (FIV)
  • FVRCP vaccines-effective way to protect against 3 highly contagious and life-threatening feline diseases: feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR), feline calicivirus (C), and feline panleukopenia (P)
  • Rabies vaccine required by VA State law
  • Treatments for intestinal parasites
  • Treated for fleas, mites, and ticks as needed
  • Microchipped
  • and other treatments to ensure good health
